All Saints Church - Icklingham, Suffolk - Sunday 28th December 2014
All Saints is now a redundant church (about 100 years) kept in a very high state of repair. There is a
second church in the Village of Icklingham.
To find this little gem. From the A11 at the Mildenhall roundabout (Five Ways/Barton Mills) take the A1101 towards Bury St Edmunds and Icklingham is the first
village that you come to. By the Flour Mill is St James' Church and about another mile on is All Saints. St James' is the current parish church
stillin use.
A Norman Thatched Church This lovely little church which dates back to the 11th century stands a little off the road on a small hill
walled graveyard with a majectic prescence.
The South Pourch You will find this door locked but the North door(aroud the back) is usually open.
but the
North door (aroud the back) is usually open.
If neither door is open the keyholder lives in the adjacent cottage.

Nave is just two isles. The
North Isle continues to the choir and chancel
The
North Isle Roof has recently been repaired/replaced.
The Choir Floor still has much of the original medeavil tile floor.
Now
turn around to the way you have come a look back along the Nave. The simply proportion pews
Beside the North Door lies a stone sarcogophous, unknow occupant (if any).
And on the
West Wall an acient chest.
And next to that the
Font
The
South Isle is simple as the rest of the church, with two niches,
Now unoccupied for statuary. (Probably a second altar).
A
Victorian Litter Stands at the East end of the South Isle.
This is an all a lovely proportioned little church. Light and airy.
